Propolis and its medicinal value

Propolis is a resinous exudate collected from tress by honeybees which they used to seal their hives.The components of can be traced to the trees from which they are collected.
PROPERTIES
It is hard,brittle,aromatic,sticky,yellowish green in colour.
Propolis especially abundant around the edges of the cover and at the ends of the frame
COMPOSITION
30% wax,55% resins and balsams,5%pollen,galangin,isalpinin,pinostrobin,phenolic acids.Flavanones etc
MEDICINAL USES
Propolis has been reported to possess anti microbial properties against viruses,bacteria and fungai.During World War 11 propolis was reported to the effective in healing wonds.
It is very effective in the treatment of throat infections,eczema,urinary tract infections.radiation skin problems
Antibacterial activity
staphylococcus aureus -(common cause of localised pus prodused infection
streptococcus pyogenes-common cause of upper respiratory tract infection
Streptococcus pneumoniae-common cause of bacterial pneumonia
Antifungal
Piedraia hortae-fungus parasitic on hair
Trichosporon cutaneum-repirtory tract infection.
Note:In some people it cause allergic reaction.One should seek medical advice before using propolis.
